I know you were kidding about barefoot running, but my coach in high school had us do 300s, barefoot, on a grass field. The workout seemed to have some merits. From what I've read, running barefoot can turn someone from a heel striker to a mid- or fore-foot striker, all of which come with a different set of potential running issues. The cliche is that heel-strikers may have knee issues while mid or fore-foot strikers are more prone to ankle/foot injuries.
